Many of us have suffered what Og describes as the bruises of failure and the wounds of mediocrity. Perhaps there is a bruise on our FICO score or ego. Perhaps there is a wound from childhood, a failed relationship, a bad investment, a struggling or failed business, or a career path that has sucked the marrow out of the bones of our hopes and dreams. Some of these bruises and festering wounds can be very deep and painful.

Stressed and often burdened with emotional and financial debt, we can courageously set out in search of freedom - an opportunity to reverse, mitigate, or even eliminate these negative and even destructive experiences, memories, or current circumstances. Many of us are so sick and tired of being sick and tired we just want to be rich enough to get above it all believing that this will provide the freedom we seek. Freedom is a worthy cause.

Vulnerable, eager, and often desperate we take our journey to freedom only to find ourselves standing at a critical crossroad before two paths. One path leads to the left and is well-worn. The second path to the right is clearly “less traveled.”

The path to the left is inviting and even enticing, posted with promises of peace, ease, safety, and riches. This path is defined by the “secret system,” the “easy program,” or the “get-rich-quick” promise. This path  offers an opportunity to escape and avoid the rigors of life – no more fear, stress, pain, and frustration.

The path to the right is a little less attractive as it is posted with promises of purpose and the need to get out of our comfort zone and take action.  The path to the right offers an opportunity to engage in life, embrace principles, connect with people, create value, and contribute to the world. It is the only path that leads to real abundance.

We have discovered that 97% of those actively seeking abundance share seven thought processes in common. Two of these thought processes support the creation of very vivid mental images. Of those who share these thought processes, 98% chose to turn left and use these two extremely powerful thought processes destructively. Only 2% naturally turn right. This handful of fortunate ones instinctively use these thought processes constructively. We all have the power to choose right turns. Until now we may not have been aware of this critical crossroads of truth.

When we choose to turn left, we use these two thought processes to avoid life and escape into fantasies -  a pre-occupation with ‘what it is going to be like when we are rich.’ We want to prematurely experience the relief, the excitement, the recognition, the rewards. These fantasies are addictive and quickly become one of our primary means of pleasure, albeit counterfeit pleasure. As we spend more and more time in this fantasy world, we execute less and less in the real world and we lose the ability to act on opportunity.

These vain attempts to artificially and prematurely experience anticipated future events drive emotional highs fueled by the powerful drug norepinephrine. Within 24 to 48 hours these highs are quickly and dramatically replaced by emotional lows fueled by cortisol. Those who choose the left path live on a veritable emotional rollercoaster of fantastical highs and catastrophic lows all the while expecting the abundant universe to magically manifest their dreams.

Some may even go deeper into consumer debt in a burdensome and vain attempt to prematurely create their fantasies in tangible reality or to pay some well-marketed guru to do it for them. When we chose to turn left, happiness will elude us. We can even fall into a self-centric black hole so dense, so deep, and so ugly that it cannot be penetrated by real joy and the light of love.

So often I hear in initial coaching sessions, “Why can’t I have it? I can almost touch it. I can almost taste it. Why can’t I have it?” These questions are often followed by self-deprecating thoughts such as, “Something must be wrong with me,” or “God must not love me!” and falsely believing, “Everyone else is succeeding!”

The answers to these heart-felt and often heart-breaking questions are simple yet often painful to hear. First, our escape and avoidance fantasies are often about avoiding the very things that are needed to create and support abundance. They have resisted and even avoided the preparatory process of becoming abundant. They have been unwilling to submit to and apply the laws that govern abundance. They have been seeking an easy way, a short cut. They want the blessings without obeying the laws upon which the blessings of abundance are predicated. They want the reward without the work.

The power that governs abundance loves us too much to burden us with that which we are not prepared to handle. It knows that premature financial abundance would crush us as evidenced in the lives of a great percentage of major lottery winners. Such a responsibility would put ourselves, our families and friends at risk. It would bless few, burden many, and bankrupt most.

Second, this place of ease, free from stress, pain, and frustration and which we can vividly visit in our fantasies exists only in our mind, not in the real world. The hard truth is this, the path to the left is not only mystical and magical, it is mythical. No such place exists on this tangible planet except in slick brochures, on silver tongues, and in salacious minds. No matter how much we want to believe otherwise, this place is not real. The existence of this place called “ease” is one of most deceptive, diabolical, and devastating lies to come out of the last decadent decade. The pursuit of ease is a deadly dead end. It is simply not true.

Is vivid visualization healthy? Yes, when we chose to turn right. On this path, we learn and apply the five constructive ways to create mentally that which we will create physically.  We don’t escape and avoid, we envision and implement. As we turn right, we learn how the power that governs abundance actively participates in both creation processes – mental and physical - albeit very differently in each. When we visualize appropriately and constructively using these two powerful thought processes, we can create a crystal clear vision that ignites passion – a willingness to suffer for something.

Passion in turn drives discipline, focus, effort, and action all of which unlock our genius. Driven by genius and vision and fueled by passion, we work tirelessly without counting the costs. Einstein said, “A vivid imagination is more valuable than knowledge.” However, when we waste these powerful gifts on vivid escape and avoidance fantasies, we create drug induced emotional highs which are inevitably followed by very real emotional lows. A creator’s vision ignites passion that drives discipline, focus, effort and action. Escape and avoidance fantasies foster frustration, anger, and fear.

Only 2% of those actively seeking abundance naturally chose to turn right. This segment of the population also has the same two powerful thought processes that support vivid visualization; however, they use these tools much differently than those who turn left.

First, they have little or no desire to escape and avoid the rigors of life. Instead they want to engage in life, embrace principles, connect with people, create value, and contribute to the world. Visits to this sacred space in the mind are reserved for mental rehearsal, seeking inspiration, exploration of possibilities, problem solving, and planning and goal setting. They do not want to prematurely experience counterfeit pleasure. They want the real thing.

They want to know what it is going to take to create their dreams in tangible reality. They may mentally explore and vividly experience something they want to eventually create in tangible reality but only for the purposes of gaining insight about how to do it. They may ask question such as,

“How can I serve?”

“What words can I speak that would serve or communicate this message even clearer?”

“Is it worth my time to create this?”

“How could I do it faster and even more effectively?”

“What would be a more creative way to solve that challenge or create a more favorable outcome?”

“Who could I enroll in this vision that could contribute and benefit from the effort?”

“How can I be a better listener, servant, or leader?”

They have chosen to become entrepreneurs – one who undertakes to create. Armed with a creator’s vision that fuels passion these entrepreneurs step back from the dream, plant their feet firmly in the now, and begin creating. There is purpose in every day and every action taken. They are excited about life and are willing to embrace and conquer the challenges that will inevitably lie between where they are and where they want to be. They zero in with laser-focused effort and action and work tirelessly without counting the costs. It is often difficult for them to delineate between work and play.

People who have chosen to turn right have created the perfect platform for becoming real, genuine, and authentic. As a result, they more naturally engage, connect, and network with others. They own and fully utilize their natural gifts and talents. They are self-directed and act on their own moral authority. They do the next right thing on their journey to success because they want to, get to, and choose to. They are vision-driven, passionate, goal-oriented, and focused on accomplishment and contribution. They “spend” little or no time engaged in escape and avoidance fantasies. They “invest” both their mental and physical creation time in bringing their dreams to fruition.

People who turn right often appear to be lucky. They experience success relatively quickly and success only fuels their passion and growing enthusiasm – God’s gift within. They actively participate in the sacred process of abundance and become abundant in the process. Financial abundance is the welcomed natural outcome and not necessarily the focus. They love to serve and are served often. They are alive and love life and life loves them.

Their life is not free of disappointment, discouragement, or heartache. They would not want it to be so. It is here that some of their greatest lessons in life were and continue to be learned. Their hunger to learn is rewarded with light, love, joy, cooperation, and productivity from others.

If we choose to turn right, we are blessed and here we bless one another. This is an exciting and fulfilling way to live! Contrast this with a dreamer – one who allows a sequence of stimulating sensations to flow through a mind that is asleep. Asleep, a dreamer coasts through life, uncommitted, often unconscious of the incredible opportunity opening to them--all the while waiting for a fantasy fairy to magically manifest their hopes and dreams. An entrepreneur intentionally creates tangible reality.  They know how to create in their minds what they create in reality.

Prior to reading this article were your secret dreams and desires more closely associated with escaping and avoiding the rigors of life – having enough money to be above it all – no more debt, bills, pain, or frustration and with the financial and time freedom described. If so you now know why abundance has eluded you. We invite you to make a course correction.

The best way to get started is to learn the principles that govern prosperity and to actively apply these principles in your life.  Click here to obtain everything you need to engage in a new daily regimen leading to the life you always wanted and felt you deserved.  Act now to save $100 and before old habits and old results reestablish themselves and pull you back to mediocrity.

I believe Og, through the power of God is tying to tell me something...interpret this as you will, I am interested in your opinion. I read all of Og's books. "I have read The God Memorandum" 100 nights in a row several times. I quote him frequently, I recommend his books to everyone. But I believe it is my unwritten book that Og is interested in! I believe he wants me to come out from the shadows, stop procrastinating and share my story with the world.
I had an extreme, trauma that lasted for years. That trauma formed my life - some for the good, professionally working with teens/pre-teens who have also had this trauma. Other times, it led me down a path of self destruction. I have probably wandered that very street in Cleveland Oh. where Og stopped at the pawn shop, possibly been in that very shop to do business in order to feed a habit that can take away all pain; physical, mental, emotional. In the summer of '07 I decided I should write a book about the events in my life that were formed as a direct result of that trauma.
I wrote several chapters, I shared them with few trusted people - one being my therapist. As I read the rough draft of the chapter describing how the trauma began, she had tears in her eyes. She said to me "You have such a gift of writing, and the world needs to hear your story - there are no books written from a man's perspective on what has happened and how you shaped yourself as a result of this"
For reasons known to those who have been through such trauma, there is little self esteem, or confidence. Yet, I cannot get the idea of this book out of my mind. I do believe it would do the world good. This brings me to my statement of Og's spirit directing me. Several mornings ago, while lying awake in bed, I thought of "my book" and questioned myself why not write it and somehow, somewhere someone will find it worth publishing.I distinctly remember thinking about one of my favorite quotes of Og's, a small pA*sage tucked away in "The Greatest Mystery in the World"; pg.58 - he talks of seizing opportunity and he wrote (in quote)..." Remember that four things come not back:the spoken word, the sped arrow, the past life, and the neglected opportunity" I thought, while still in bed and said to myself "you are neglecting the opportunity to get that book done, somehow things will work out, I need to just trust and believe" I got out of bed, went to my computer to read morning emails. And there it was... THE SIGN!! The hutch above my computer has glA*s doors. The one door was open, which it self is odd because you need to really pull to open the doors. Then what I saw sent shivers down my spine. Amongst a shelf of very tightly packed books was one single book, laying on it's spine, pulled out form the rest of the books it was..."The Greatest Mystery in the world" There is no earthly explanation of the door being open and even more amazing why of all the books, the very one that contained the pA*sage I just quoted would be out on it's spine. Not just tilted or tipped over, but way out beyond the shelf itself, this one single book on it's spine, disrupting not another book on he shelf. All the rest still in perfect upright position.
Can you explain this in any other way other than Og trying to tell me something, telling me write, "do not neglect this opportunity" I do believe in miracles. I do believe in the after-life. I do believe Og will continue to guide me. I do not believe he will allow my testament to go unwritten. I do believe the world needs my story, and in that story I will attribute quote upon quote of Og Mandino.
I hope someone out there reads this, This is Og's site, maybe he guided me here for a purpose. I need to face the obstacles of who will support this book and help me get it out to help so many whose lives have been changed by the sort of trauma I had. Not just those who have directly experienced it, not just the victim. Every single person I have/ had in my life were/are touched in one way or the other by what happened. And that it what the book is about. Not just me, but every single relationship I have had in my life, knowingly or not are influenced by my past.
To whoever is out there, if anyone ever reads this, wish me luck in following what I believe Og and God wants me to NOT neglect....write.
MrJeff
